Remembering two recently deceased masters of the craft of cinema

Kalabhavan Mani

Kunnisseri Veettil Raman Mani better known by his stage name Kalabhavan Mani. He received the National Film Award - Special Jury Award and Kerala State Film Award. His first leading role was in the film Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum and his first music album was Kannimanga Prayathil. He has since established a parallel industry of folk songs (nadan pattu) selling a record number of releases and has acted in 200 Malayalam films.

Kalpana Priyadarshini was an Indian film actress best known for her work in South Indian films, primarily Malayalam and Tamil films. She acted in over 300 films in various South Indian languages. Although she came into the industry with the intention of being a lead actress, she became popular for her comic roles. At the 60th National Film Awards, she won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Thanichalla Njan (2012).
